Things My Kids Love:

Don't mess with me!
I went to the doctor, so I had to get on the scale, so I'm on a diet, so don't talk to me unless you are ready to lose an arm in a fit of rage-hunger. But my insurance pays 100% for preventative care, so there's that... #boymom #hangry #hulk #momster

Life Lessons from the Hallmark Channel
I don’t have a lot of free time. Taking a moment to do something purely enjoyable for myself just doesn’t happen very often. I’ve learned to grab a little joy when I can, namely while simultaneously stress-working, worrying about the day ahead, and folding laundry after everyone has gone to bed. This is time I allow myself to put on some mindless entertainment that doesn’t require me to spend too much of the attention needed to finish my projects. This is why my beloved Ha

Black Hacks
I saw a video on Facebook the other day called Mexican Hacks. It featured a young man chronicling his experience with Mexican cultural quirks that he jokingly explained were ruining his life. It was funny, but it also made me think of all the things I do in my own home that might be labeled under the “black experience” and would be funny to share with others. So, I made my own list of black hacks--let’s call them #blahacks. Or, let’s not. Hack #1 - Vaseline This is number

Happy Birthday to Me!
For my New Year resolution, I decided to relaunch my blog the right way, and put my date on my birthday, March 4th. Well, as you can see...I didn't make it. I am so close--I've designed t-shirts, written new posts, and have a whole 3-month scheduled plan for launch. But it just wasn't ready to go today. I've been busy on client work, and other things that I know are just excuses. Hopefully, seeing my deadline come and go will make me buckle down and finish the last few t

Here's my two cents...
I just wrote a 4-page blog post regarding a recent incident--one that many of my Facebook friends have weighed in with their thoughts and judgments. I planned on posting it on my personal blog, and then sharing on social media for anyone who found my unwanted opinion interesting. And then I erased it. I have a variety of ideals, viewpoints, and personal experiences with race, religion, politics, and gender that make me a vessel for many unpopular and competing opinions. But

Because I want more...
There was a blog post hitting up my news-feed recently. It was about a mom who wrote about her desire for a simple, “mediocre” life. In the post, she posed questions about her ability, her body, her mothering, her marriage, her faith, and asked, “Aren’t I enough?” In the end, she decided that she was. Mothers all over my circle of friends and acquaintances were reposting, liking, and commenting about the post—hence, its prominent display on my feed. They loved the sentim

Auld Lang Syne
Seated at the dinner table, surrounded by my beautiful family--each of my boys taking a moment to say what they are thankful for, and how they are going to make the upcoming year a great one. I smile to myself and think how I resolve to be a better mother. More kind. More patient. More loving. Yes, I think 2017 is going to be my year. 20 minutes later, cleaning the kitchen after that same blessed dinner with the boys' help. One is knocking full cups of juice off the ta

A Special Moment
We reached a very special milestone (for me, anyway) last week. Ever since the day my son was born, I've had people remind me, "Well, at least one day he will get to participate in the Special Olympics." Which, when presented in this way, gave me more anticipation than relief. So when he finally reached the age to participate, I was both nervous and excited. It was a track and field event--something he isn't really familiar with--but we knew he would have fun racing, throw

I am part of the problem...
What I pictured in my mind: “I will pull out all of the craft supplies so the boys can have fun during their Spring Break making Easter cards for their grandmothers and great-grandmothers. I will let their imaginations run wild—they can use paint, paper, glitter, glue, jewels, stickers, everything I can find. The grandmas will be so happy we thought of them, and will treasure these beautiful masterpieces forever!” What actually happened: The boys got bored after about two m

The (not-so-glamorous) Confessions of a Real Housewife
(As seen on Scary Mommy) I hear Real Housewives of Dallas is scheduled to debut this year. Even though I’ve gotten away from watching the franchise in the recent years, I do believe I will watch a few episodes of my home town in case it stars anyone I know. As if. I watched an episode of that new one in Potomac the other day, and it only emphasized what I already believed…In what world can these women be described as real housewives? Don’t take that as shade—the women are

Mommy's Infirmary
My first patient of the morning is healing quite nicely--though there is a bit of scarring. I prescribe 24-hours of rest before jumping back on any portals to the Skylands. Now, back to the waiting room. I hope you all have insurance... #skylanders #ironman #bumblebee #transformers #parent #supermom #boymom #superheroes #actionfigures #kidstoys

I just got upgraded...
My 2-year old came in singing a song from the episode of Teen TItans, Go! he just watched: "I'm a boy, a really cool boy. I'm a boy, a really cool boy." I started singing along, but he stopped me and said, "Don't sing that. You not the really cool boy." "So, who am I?" I asked him. He paused and thought about htis for a moment before saying, "You the Batman." #batman #boymom #teentitansgo #superhero #supermom #parenting #funnykidquotes #stuffkidssay

I finally made it...
I’ve just reached a milestone in my parenting experience. I’ve spent most of my time up to now just trying to teach kids the basics--like, you know, how to use a toilet, or put on two of the same shoes. Those who follow regularly know that it’s pretty much still touch and go. And then, today in the car, I experienced a life-changing moment. Let me explain. I’ve been listening to Pentatonix lately, and when they first made it into our rotation I explained to my boys that the

Baby Genius
Today my 2-year old started burping his words and responses during conversation. That seems young to acheive this mileston--I believe his brothers were at least three or four when they began to exhibit this ability. So the question is, is he a baby genius? *Note: I'm obviously just joking. I knew he was a baby genius when he started telling fart jokes six months ago. #stuffkidssay #boymom
Did I just say that?
I was going through my crazy quotes list, and I noticed that the group headings are sometimes as funny (and as random) as the actual quotes. For example, I have quotes under the headings of food, discipline, licking, safety, gross, and of course, poop (which, yes, is separate from gross). Every now and then, quotes in the miscellaneous group can be pulled out to form their own group. So today, I share with you the newest and most random group on my list: Ninjas. “I’m a mo
